Most ICT applications are developed in projects for which a number of innovative ideas have to be created and critical decisions need to take place. This course provides a practical approach to the project design process for ICT applications. The focus is on the use of creative idea generation and problem solving methods, and assessment of appropriate ICT design methods. These issues will be demonstrated through a relevant ICT-application design project implemented by the students, and resulting in a project design document.

I  Discovering Relevant Topic for ICT Project Design

1. Using creative design methods (seminars, brainstorming)
2. Description of the topic and setting limitations
3. Recognizing potential stakeholders (users, customers, funding organizations etc)

II  Defining and Selecting of ICT Design Methods

1. Identification of potential design methods
2. Setting selection criteria for design methods
3. Selection of an appropriate application design method

III  Formation of the Project Team

1. Identification of knowledge and expertise needed in the project
2. Defining roles of team members

IV  Defining the Expected Outcomes

1. Mapping of potential applications
2. Re-evaluation of the design
3. Implementation plan

V  Writing and Presenting an ICT Project Plan

1. A group of 3-4 students produce a project plan for the selected design option. Key elements of the project plan will be presented and evaluated in common workshops.

The final grade will be computed from the following constituent parts:
mid-semester exam (20%),
final (3 0 %) and
assignments ( 50 %).
Closed-book examination is used for both mid-semester and final exam
