Education

Dr. Indrajit Pal holds Master of Science in Geology with specialization in Geomorphological Mapping, Time Series Analysis, Remote Sensing and GIS (2001), Master in Sociology with specialization in Urban Sociology (2011) and a Ph.D in Geography (Earthquake Hazard Assessment) in 2009 from Vidyasagar University and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India.

Dr. Pal having more than 13 years of experience on teaching, training, research, curriculum development, advocacy, consultancy primarily focused on Disaster Governance, Risk Management, Incident Command System, Disaster Risk Reduction, Hazard and Risk Assessment, GIS & Remote Sensing in risk management, Climate Change Adaptation and disaster risk management, case study documentation etc.

Professional Experience

Dr. Pal served as faculty member at Centre for Disaster Management, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, INDIA (Govt. of India Institute for training Indian Administrative Services Officers) from 2006 to 2014. Dr. Pal developed and imparted number of training modules on Incident Command System (ICS) and Disaster Risk Management to the central and provincial level administrators, decision makers, senior govt. officials and Scientists across India. He was Nodal Officer to Conduct Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India supported training programmes for Scientists and Technologists of India and conducted more than 32 training programmes. Dr. Pal delivered Disaster Management modules to more than 500 Bangladeshi Civil Services Officers under Mid-Career Training Program in India and also worked as resource person and observer for the pilot projects on Incident Command System (ICS) adaptation and implementation in India.

Dr. Pal published more than 30 publications which includes research paper in national, regional and international journals, conference paper, book chapters and book. He is currently supervisor and members of the research committee for number of master and doctoral students. He is currently reviewer of journals Current Science, Journal on Disaster and Development, Journal of Forestry Research, African Journal of Environmental Science and Technology, International Journal of Innovation, Management and Technology, Asian Journal of Geoinformatics, Integrated Disaster Risk Management Journal (IDRiM).

Dr. Pal is a Life Member of ‘Indian Society of Remote Sensing’, Qualified Amateur Station Operation License Examination by Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Govt. of India, Grade – I (Call Sign: VU2TLR). Extended core group member of the “National Disaster Response Management Guideline” by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India.

Dr. Pal delivered Disaster Management modules to more than 500 Bangladeshi Civil Services Officers under Mid-Career Training Program in India and also worked as resource person and observer for the pilot projects on Incident Command System (ICS) adaptation and implementation in India. He visited Emergency Management Institute (EMI), Maryland, Washington State Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), Pennsylvania EOC, University of Colorado, California Governor’s Office Emergency Operation Centre in USA. He also served as UNISDR supported resource person to CIFAL Jeju, Republic of Korea on Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Asia-Pacific Region. He also served as panel and invited speaker in Bangkok, Cambodia, India, Japan and Nepal. Dr. Pal was also a visiting Scholar to Kyoto University, Japan in December, 2015 for collaborative lecture under “Consortium for International Human Resource Development for Disaster- Resilient Countries (DRC)”.
